Ponta Delgada church
The Azores were settled by Portugal starting in the 1400s and as there was no indigenous population, Catholicism was immediately installed as the main religion. This is Ponta Delgada's main church - Igreja de S. José and Matriz. It was closed when we were there. The combination of volcanic rock (basalt?) and plaster is the standard design for Azorean churches.
