Ponta Delgada is aggressively expanding their harbor to build a new marina. This is both exciting for commerce and disappointing for tourism as the construction requires substantial landfill which means the former waterfront fort will now be set well back inland. I liked the contrast of the old fort (Castelo Sao Braz) and the construction crane building the new marina. The fort currently houses a military museum. Note the interesting rock mosaic sidewalks which are a theme in Ponta Delgada.
