Ribeira Grande is Sao Miguel island's second largest city with 20,000 people. We were there first on a rainy day. It was interesting to me that from the main square from where this photo was taken, you can see 3 religious buildings. Shown here are the main church up the hill and some type of chapel in the foreground. The chapel or shrine had many flowers inside and the floor was covered with fresh cut evergreen boughs.
